Deon Shekuza is a youth advocate working on sustainable development issues such as the United Nations SDGs and the African Union Agenda 2063.
He is active within the international youth climate community previously inducting new members and co-drafting youth statements and positions in climate negotiations at the children and youth constituency of the UNFCCC.
He has supported and co-organized some of the largest youth climate events globally. As a member of a youth advisory working group in 2019 they co-organized the first ever UN Youth Climate Summit.
Past International Youth Conferences on Climate Change (COYs) and most recently the Youth4Climate event at Pre-COP26 that brought together two from each state 400 youth out of 8000+ applicants.
As the national focal point of the African Youth Initiative on Climate Change (AYICC), he also supports continental efforts to further align climate action with young people. Providing mentorship and capacity buidling to individual youth and or their networks on climate advocacy.
Receiving capacity building through the African Group of Negotatiors on climate negotations.
Shekuza, is a junior trained delegate to the Climate Conference of Parties also a member of the Namibia Rio Conventions Committee. A body that is responsible for directly advising on climate and environmental policies and implementation of the conventions. Through this he is also able to report and coordinate the role of youth therein.
Deon Shekuza is part of the Namibia Youth Coalition on Climate Change, he co-founded the Namibian Youth on Renewable Energy (NAYoRE), the Namibian Youth Biodiversity Network a national constituent of the Global Youth Biodiversity Network (GYBN) and the Namibian Chapter of the Comprehensive Africa Agriculture Development Program (CAADP) Youth Network.
